World War II Service. Graduated in Roseburg, Or 1953 Enlisted in US Army in May 1953: Basic training at Camp Roberts, California: advanced Infantry training at Ft. Ord, California. Sent to Europe in 1954 and was assigned to the 14th Armored Artillery, Charlie Company. Was a full track mechanic, worked on M7A1 DePriest, M37 and T41 light recon tanks. Part of the 2nd Armored Division (HELL ON WHEELS) We were part of the Occupation Troops in Europe Rank- Full Track Specialist We were part of the Cold War Troops in the early stages, but never received medals. I was able to Tour most of Europe west of the Iron Curtain on the back of a M7A1 DePriest 105 MM Armored Tank. After released was in the Army Reserves for 8 years. I was assigned to charlie battery of the 14th Armored field artillery as a full track mechanic. We had 6 each, M7A1 DePriest 105 mm self propelled Howitzers, 6 each armored personnel carriers and 3 half tracks of which two of us had to keep running. I also was sent to advanced training on the maintenance and operation of light recon tanks.
