During this enlistment he served in the Korean War aboard the USS Tortuga (LSD 26), a dock landing ship. He also took part in Nuclear Testing Operations in the Pacific Ocean. After this enlistment, he returned to the Roseburg area and continued service in a reserve status. Everett re-enlisted in the Navy in July 1957 and served as a Radarman. His homeport was San Diego Naval Base, California. He met and married his wife of 49 years, Donna (Call) Boyd. His last duty assignment was aboard the destroyer USS Parsons (DD949). While he was aboard he completed operations in support of the Vietnam War. After his military service he moved his family to Glide, Oregon. After several years the family moved to Donna's home state of Massachusetts. They moved back to the Roseburg area in 1987.
