1St. Sgt. United States Marine Corp ( Ret ) Born in Ohio, Joined the Corp in 1950 in California at the age of 17. Served as a machine gun section leader in the Korean War. Served twice in the Vietnam War,once as a Company Gunnery Sgt. and once as a Company First Sgt. Served as an infantry unit leader in the 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. Marine Divisions, Company Gunnery Sgt.with the 1st. Marine Brigade, and 1st. Sgt.with the 5th.Force Service Regiment. Other duty stations in the Marine Corps : Drill Instructor, Recruiter, Marine Instructor at the University of Notre Dame, sea duty on two different ships, and two Marine Barracks.Promoted to First Sergeant in 1967. Awarded 16 different decorations.Married to wife Anne since 1955. Have two sons, one of which spent 8 years in the Marine Corp, and discharged with the Rank of Captain. Retired in 1970 at Newark,Ca. Owned own business until moving to Roseburg in 1989. After retirement, was called back to active duty three years in a row to work on retired affairs at the Pentagon for the Secretary of the Navy. In 1998 when Marine Major General Marion Carl was murdered in Roseburg,Oregon, got the local airfield named after the General, raised funds and was instramental in completing a Memorial in Honor of this wonderful man. In addition have placed a second memorial at the Marine Headquarters in Pensacola Florida.Instrumental in having the Headquarters at Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point,N.C named after the General. Also placed displays of Gen. Carl in all Marine Corp Museums. Was selected and ran the 2004 Torch Relay in Eugene,Or. Life member of Marine Corp League,1st Marine Division, VFW and American Legion.
