Walter served with the 24th Infantry Division, Cavalry Regiment as a light infantryman. He was wounded on 5 November,1950 from missile attack. After the war Walter returned to his native California and was a member of the Dinuba Christian Church, an honorary lifetime member of the Dinuba Veterans of Foreign Wars, an honorary lifetime member of the Terra Bella American Legion, and was a Dinuba volunteer firefighter. He received several awards including the Eagles homebuilder Award in 1969 for being a good family man, the VFW Buddy Poppy award in 1978, the Dinuba recreation department named the little league home run trophy after him for his many years of involvement with the little league. Walter worked for the Pacific Telephone co. as an installer for 18 years.He is survived by his wifw, Louise Sylvester, two sons, Monte and Mickey, two daughters, Connie Logan and Vicki Gillen, all of Dinuba. He is also survived by his parents, John and Jessie Sylvester of Dinuba, tho brothers, Junior of Oceano, and David of Jackson , Mississippi, seven sisters, Carmen Rice, Yuma,Az., Betty Berry of Dinuba, Sherry Cambron and Patsy Russell of Oregon, Geraldine Sylvester of Visalia, Suzanne Wray of Orosi, and Pam Salisbury of Paso Robles,Ca.
