A GUNNER/ RADIOMAN HE WAS SENT OVERSEAS WITH THE 741ST TANK BATTALION AND WAS STATIONED AT SWINDON, WILTS, ENGLAND. LANDED ON OMAHA BEACH ON D-DAY IN 1944 AND FOUGHT IN THE NORMANDY HEDGEROWS UNTIL THE ALLIED BREAKOUT IN MID JULY- 1944. PARTICIPATED IN THE PARIS VICTORY PARADE, BUT WAS CAPTURED BY GERMANS ON DEC. 16,1944 DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. HE WAS HELD CAPTIVE NEAR STETTIN ON THE ELBE RIVER UNTIL MARCH, 1945, THEN MARCHED AROUND GERMANY UNTIL LIBERATED IN LATE APRIL BY AN AMERICAN RECONNAISSANCE UNIT. HE TOOK BASIC TRAINING AT CAMP YOUNG, CALIFORNIA AND TANK TRAINING AT CAMP POLK, LA AND CAMP LEE, VA.
