RICHARD CLIFFORD TRULLINGER ALSO KNOWN AS DICK WAS BORN TO CHARLES AND PHYLLIS TRULLINGER ON APRIL 10,1925 IN HIBBING MINNESOTA . HIS FATHER PASSED AWAY FROM A MINING ACCIDENT WHEN RICHARD WAS 4 AND SOON AFTER DICK,HIS MOM PHYLLIS AND SISTER BETTY MOVED TO SOUTHERN OREGON. WHEN DICK TURNED 17, HE JOINED THE NAVY AND WAS SHIPPED TO THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC ABOARD THE USS BELLE GROVE LSD-2 WHICH WAS A ASHLAND CLASS DOCK LANDING SHIP.THE SHIP WAS CALLED TO PEARL HARBOR ON OCT. 21 1943. DICK WAS ASSIGNED AS A ISLAND HOPPER. IT WAS THE JOB OF ISLAND HOPPERS TO CAPTURE ISLANDS BETWEEN HAWAII AND JAPAN, THIS INCLUDED SUPPORT OF THE 5TH MARINE DIVISION IN ACTION ON IWO JIMA DURING FEB.1945 AT THE CONCLUSSION OF WWII DICK LEFT THE NAVY AND RETURNED TO SOUTHERN OREGON WHERE HE MARRIED GENEVIVE, ALSO KNOWN AS JENNY. THEY WERE MARRIED FOR 69 YEARS AND HAD 4 CHILDREN, RICK,REX,RON AND RANDY. DICK SPENT HIS CAREER WORKING FOR PACIFIC POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY RETIRING AFTER 40 YEARS AS THE NORTH UMPQUA POWER SUPERINTENDENT. AFTER RETIREMENT DICK KEPT BUSY AS A RESERVE POLICE OFFICER FOR ROSEBURG POLICE DEPT. AS WELL AS THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF DEPT. DICK PASSED AWAY ON OCT. 4,2014 AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH ASBESTOSIS DUE TO EXPOSURE WHILE ABOARD SHIP DURING THE WAR. DICK WAS PROUD TO HAVE SERVED HIS COUNTRY AND HIS COMMUNITY AND HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
